Veggie Burgers vs. Impossible Meat: Which Is Healthier?

veggie burgers

The demand for vegan options is on the rise, and for good reason. They’re better for the environment, they’re often healthier, and they offer unique flavors for vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike.

Whether you’re a non-meat-eater or you want to try something new, why not try a vegan alternative to a traditional burger? We have both veggie burgers and Impossible burgers, so which will you choose?

Let’s talk about it! Read on to learn about a few nutritional differences between the two.

Veggie Burgers

So how healthy are veggie burgers?

It depends! When you get a house-made veggie burger in Nashville, Mt. Juliet, or Lenox Village, it will have a variety of different ingredients.

Most of those ingredients will, of course, be vegetables. Veggie burgers often contain beans, beets, carrots, and other nutritious ingredients. They’re also high in fiber and offer a moderate amount of protein.

Your toppings will impact the health factor of your burger. If you pile it high with fresh ingredients, it will be “healthier” than if you add cheese and creamy sauce on top (though cheese does add protein).

Impossible Burgers

Impossible burgers are made with Impossible beef. The Impossible brand makes realistic fake meat that’s perfect for a burger. It has fat and even “bleeds” when you cook it.

Impossible burgers contain 19g of protein, which is about the same as an equivalent beef burger. They also contain B12 (which is difficult for vegans to find in other foods), iron, zinc, and more.

Impossible burgers are “processed,” but that doesn’t make them unhealthy. Of course, as with the veggie burgers, your toppings of choice will impact the “health factor” of the burger.

Which Is “Healthier?”

At the end of the day, burgers are always treats! Neither of these options are healthy foods, and that’s okay. With that in mind, they both have nutritional benefits. Those benefits are just different!

As we mentioned before, Impossible burgers are high in protein. They also contain vitamins and minerals that may or may not be difficult to find in your diet depending on whether you’re a vegan or a vegetarian (or just an omnivore that incorporates plant-based items into your diet).

Because of this, it is a nutritionally-balanced option.

With that in mind, depending on the contents of a veggie burger, those can also be healthy! They often contain healthy vegetables and legumes that are full of nutrients and protein (though often less protein than Impossible Burgers).

In other words, both burgers can be included in a balanced and healthy diet.

Which Plant-Based Burger Will You Try?

Since both Impossible Burgers and veggie burgers can be great additions to any healthy diet (in moderation), why not try them both? Both of them are reasonably nutritious.

If you want fiber and vegetables, veggie burgers may be better. If you prioritize protein and B12, Impossible burgers will be the better choice.
